Requiring less time to complete than the PADI Open Water Course this is the ideal certification for those of who want to become certified on vacation but don't want to spend the whole holiday learning to dive. This PADI course can be taken by anyone aged 15 or older.
During the PADI Scuba Diver Course you will learn the basics of scuba diving through three enclosed water scuba lessons (pool training) and two open water dives (ocean dives) as well as some theory which can be completed online before you travel. Once qualified, you can continue to learn to dive by taking the PADI Open Water Course which will further your development or even take one of the many PADI speciality courses.
Once you have obtained the PADI Scuba Diver certification you are eligible to dive in waters up to 12 metres (40 feet) deep under the guidance of a Dive Master or Instructor. You can also participate in a variety of other dive activities providing you are supervised correctly.

This course is often the first dive course that most people choose to take. If you choose to take the open water diver course you will find that it is split up into three parts:
Theory - During the theory part of the course you will learn about the basics of scuba diving including how to set up your dive equipment and how to stay safe underwater. This is usually performed in a classroom with your dive instructor. You will be required to complete some knowledge reviews and you will need to pass a multiple choice exam. Enclosed Water Sessions - This usually takes place in the swimming pool and will give you the chance to get used to your dive equipment and learn the basic scuba skills that are needed before you enter into the underwater world.
Open Water Dives - In order to pass the PADI Open Water Diver course you will need to complete four open water dives which usually take place in the sea. Depending on your location they may take place in a lake or quarry. You will be expected to show that you understand the basic dive skills during your open water dives. In order to take part in the PADI Open Water Course you need to be at least 15 years old. If you are aged between 10 and 15 you can instead take the PADI Junior Open Water Diver Course. Once you have completed the PADI Open Water Diver Course you will be eligible to dive in waters of up to 18 metres (60 feet) deep.
