Once you get to this remote resort (by multiple planes, van, boat, and Jungle Bus), it's a lovely spot on the coast of Utila. After we were unpacked, we had a relaxing week at the resort. It is rather remote and not easy or quick to get to town, but we were happy to just stay at the resort. Mornings were spent diving; afternoons reading on the porch outside our room, swaying in a hammock, or enjoying the lounge chairs and palapas on the beach; we enjoyed the camaraderie of other guests for dinner or hanging around the beach bar in the evenings.

The resort will arrange trips to nearby Cays or a tour of town for you for a minimal price. One afternoon, our group went over to Water Cay for a delicious barracuda barbeque (fish tacos). This is a deserted tropical island - lovely beach, warm water, hammocks on the beach - a slice of paradise; highly recommend going to Water Cay.

Food was prepared excellently by the executive chef and able kitchen crew. Hot breakfast (always including some type of eggs) along with cold cereal and fresh fruit available early in the morning. On the dive boat, fresh fruit and muffins were always offered after the first dive. At breakfast, menu choices were distributed for lunch and dinner (choice of 2 entrees for each meal). Some type of fresh fish was offered quite often (which was great for us landlubbers), plus chicken, pork, or beef. Sauces that accompanied meats were well prepared with great flavor. Presentation was well done in a gourmet manner. Dessert was not offered at lunch, but was always included at dinner. The only suggestion for improvement would be to add more variety and quantity to the afternoon snacks. Ice, water, iced tea and delicious red hibiscus tea were always available in the dining area.

The beach bar was a great spot to visit with friends and other divers. Comfortable seating allowed you to have a cold drink in hand while looking at the ocean and feeling the ocean breeze. Daily specials offered. Prices for beer, wine, and tropical drinks were typical of US prices. Joshue will take good care of you with a smile.

No-see-ums are definitely present outdoors on Utila. We used Deep Woods Off (40% deet) or Repel (100% deet), spraying it on liberally on the front porch in the morning and again in the evening. This did the trick to keep the no-see-ums away.

Diving was very good; there are some beautiful walls around Utila. We saw nurse shark, spotted eagle rays on several dives, green morays, hawksbill turtle, and a variety of tropical fish, including quite a few parrotfish and angelfish. Elvis, the boat captain, does a great job of assisting divers into and out of the water. Divemasters Fedi, Bola, and Chrissie were all awesome in guiding our dives and finding interesting stuff for us to see! They are all very capable scuba professionals, but fun and friendly, too.

Rooms were kept very clean (great job by the housekeeping staff), and any issues were promptly taken care of. Rooms were a nice size; you have a choie of 2 queens or 1 kingsize bed. Rooms have adequate lighting, ceiling fans, and a/c which works very quickly. All rooms have a front porch with Adirondack chairs and some hammocks. All are located close to the ocean, so you can always hear and see the ocean, which is a real treat.

This resort really excels at customer service. All of the staff were very kind and friendly; training in customer service is evident because everyone went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The staff tries to meet any request of a guest as quickly as they can to meet or exceed guests expectations. We met two of the owners - Debbi and Angelica - both were very pleasant and welcoming; it's great that the owners spend time at the resort - their attention to detail shows. Autumn, the assistant manager, is very warm, friendly, and does a superb job.

This is definitely a slice of paradise on a small island, with good diving, good food, great customer service and good ambiance.

The diving thru Utopia Village is spectacular. Just when you think it can't get much better coming in off a two tank boat dive, then you hit the house reef after lunch. WOW. This place is fabulous. The diving, facilities and staff are all top notch. We had so much fun in November 2012, we re-booked and went back in April, 2013.
